Swimming pools tend to be the centrepieces of our gardens, the space where everyone gathers on those beautiful sunny summer days. Not only this, but we spend a lot of money on keeping our pools sparkling clean and ready for family and friends to enjoy the minute they get the chance.

So, finding that your pool has a crack in it is less than ideal! No matter where the underwater leak is located, you are going to want it repaired as quickly as possible before it ruins your summer – just like the thought of draining your entire pool to repair it is about to do! Don’t despair – we have a solution for you: Epoxy.

Does Epoxy Work Under Water?

Epoxy is a temporary solution to underwater leaks and will cover a crack or tear in your pool if it is not too severe. Just make sure that what you buy is pool or marine epoxy, and not general epoxy.

How Do I Fix a Leak With Epoxy?

There are several options when it comes to DIY repairs on underwater leaks with epoxy, but the simplest options are a two-part pool or marine epoxy, or epoxy paint. They work the same – a resin and a hardener combined; they are just slightly different in texture.

Using epoxy is simple: you just combine the two tubes creating a chemical reaction. (Make sure you work quickly as it hardens fast.) For epoxy paint, you may need to fill the crack with pool putty first.

How Long Will It Last?

While epoxy will work underwater, it does not look as nice or last as long as professional-grade sealants. It will, however, keep things in check until you get the professionals in to arrange a permanent fix.
